Silicon Valley STEM Internship
6 week summer paid internship program for high school students at universities, institutes and medical device companies. Students are expected to work 30-40 hrs per week. Applications usually sent to teachers by spring break. Program includes a couple of company tours. Program culminates in a Poster Presentation & Celebration.
Bridge-to-Employment
Bridge-to-Employment is a Johnson & Johnson global initiative to provide college prep and career awareness in the health and science industries. SCCBEP's initial BTE-Milpitas program in 2001 was sponsored by the local J&J affiliate, LifeScan, Inc. It provided biotech equipment, teacher summer internship, student summer internships and resulted in a mobile kit of equipment, supplies and educational materials around Diabetes Technology that has been shared around the world.
SCCBEP's BTE-Silicon Valley program in 2006 built upon the success of BTE-Milpitas and focused on the life changing experience of a 6 week summer internship for high school students. It has been sustained due to philanthropic efforts from LifeScan, Inc. and private individuals along with the generous mentoring support of professors, college students, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from San Jose State University, Santa Clara University, Cal State University East Bay, and Stanford University.
BTE-Fremont program funded by J&J in 2012 and sponsored by local J&J affiliate, Cordis, directs college prep support and some internship positions for sophomores at Newark Memorial HS. This 3-year program includes local partners from Ohlone College, Mission Valley ROP and SCU's undergraduate science and engineering majors as SEMO (Science Education Mentoring Outreach) mentors.
